A young man, who was riding a scooter in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis), north of Paris, died on the evening of Wednesday, March 13, after his two-wheelers collided with a police car, according to the public prosecutor’s office. Bobigny.
In a press release, released Thursday at midday, the prosecution described the course of events according to the first elements collected by investigators. According to the text, around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, the driver of a scooter with a passenger on it refused a police check before fleeing.
A crew from the departmental anti-crime brigade arrived as reinforcements in the neighborhood. Near the scooter, the police car swerved to avoid another vehicle which was not respecting the sense of priority on the road and hit the fleeing scooter during this maneuver. According to the prosecution, this description of the events is confirmed by the operation of cameras installed on public roads.
The driver of the scooter, seriously injured, was taken to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital where he died. The injured passenger is still hospitalized. His placement in police custody for complicity in refusing to comply was suspended while he recovers.
Two investigations were therefore opened: the first was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN). The second, for aggravated refusal to comply, was entrusted to the judicial accident processing service of the Police Prefecture.
