The images are difficult to watch. Margot Chevrier was seriously injured – her left ankle twisted – in the final of the pole vault competition at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow (Scotland), Saturday March 2.
During an attempt at 4.65 meters, the French indoor champion fell back into the pit, the place where athletes position the pole at the moment of the impulse, in front of the mat. The 24-year-old French pole vaulter did not get up.
After being taken care of for many minutes directly on the pitch at the Emirates Arena, in great pain – she was treated with an oxygen bottle – Margot Chevrier was evacuated on a stretcher. She was then directly transferred by ambulance to the emergency room, accompanied by a doctor from the French team.
The athlete posted a photo on his Instagram in the evening accompanied by these words: “Open fracture of the talus (ankle). First operation tomorrow morning. The second in France. »
A hard blow for the 24-year-old athlete who was making full progress and who was aiming for selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She had passed 4.66 meters this winter and claimed to pass the minimums (4.73 m) or qualify for the ranking. But Margot Chevrier does not lose hope. On her leg, she wrote in marker: “Paris 2024, I will jump (I’m going to jump). »
